You're So Vain, You Probably Think Data Quality Is About You

by SteveSherry 11. April 2011 11:00

"Data Quality is an IT issue because information is stored in databases and applications that they manage.  Therefore, if there are problems with the data, then IT is responsible for cleaning up their own mess."

"Data Quality is a Business issue because information is created by business processes and users that they manage.  Therefore, if there are problems with the data, then the Business is responsible for cleaning up their own mess."

"Data Quality is not an IT issue.  Data Quality is not a Business issue.  Data Quality is everyone's issue."

Successful data quality projects are driven by a management mandate for the Business managers AND IT to forge an ongoing collaboration throughout the entire project. The Business typically owns the data and understands its meaning and use in the day to day environment.

Data8 offer a managed solution to most data cleansing queries.  We can offer a simplified process of uploading your data to the data8online portal, we'll provide you with a free of charge Data Quality Audit (DQA) which you can then simply select the services that you need for the project you are working on.  This can be as simple as TPS screening to a full Data Cleanse project.

Once you have completed your initial data cleanse, the next logical step is to protect this new asset.  Again, Data8 can help you with this.  We offer a full integration package into your exisitng CRM solution.  Best of all, your need for scheduling IT time will be at a minimum.  As a Microsoft Authorised Partner, and an early adopter for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, we have already done the hard work for your integration.  We can provide all of the code involved and your IT department have a straight-forward "point and click" style installation for our postcode lookup tool.

How to safely call customers who are listed on the TPS

by SteveSherry 6. September 2010 15:39

Everyone knows that in the UK if you call a telephone number that is listed on the TPS register you are likely to land your company in hot water (to say the least)

So, how do you ensure that you avoid this, whilst still keeping the call centre staff productive?

We recommend that you regularly cleanse your telephone database of cold prospects every 28 days using our data cleansing system, data8online.

But what do you do when your existing customers are TPS registered?

Your existing customers must have taken positive action to opt-in to receiving your marketing calls.  This is defined by ICO(but not limited to) "The act of signing up for a product or service"

But what do you do when an existing customer subsequently registers their number the TPS?

"There may be times when you decide to call an existing customer even though you have not been previously notified that they are happy to receive marketing calls, but you are satisfied in light of past experience that they would not object. This is a judgement you need to make, because even though you are confident that the customer will not object to your marketing call, technically it would be a breach of the Regulations"

"If a marketing call is made it is good practice to ask the customer at that point to clarify that they do not object to such calls. If a customer objects at any time, you should make sure that you suppress their details as soon as possible."

All of Data8's services are available in 3 different flavours.

  1. Data8online - this is for batch processing existing data
  2. Integr8 - this is for checking individual numbers or small batches.
  3. Foundation Technology - This is a hybrid solution offering the best of both worlds, fast and efficient, yet automatable service.

for more information please see the ICO's guide to calling existing customers on the tps.

Royal Mail overhauls its change-of-address data

by SteveSherry 27. May 2010 15:29

You have probably read about Royal Mail updating its change-of-address data.

Relax!

Data8 are setup and ready to make the transition as smooth and straight forward as possible with no loss of service and no downtime.

We have been in close partnership with Royal Mail over a number of years, and have discussed this change-over, and the technical updates required. As soon as the new data sources are available you will notice no drop in service at all and we will seamlessly update all of our data8online system and Data Cleansing Audits immediately. So you will receive the same high quality service that you already expect from Data8 and Royal Mail.

Essentially the new services are combining the current USS & NCOA. If there is a forwarding address available (essentially the current NCOA) then the record will be an NCOA update.

Where there is not a new address (current USS) or where you do not want to take the new addresses provided by NCOA then the record will become NCOA suppress.

As with always, if you do have any questions, please feel free to give us a call and discuss the upcoming changes with your account manager

Where is that mobile phone?

by SteveSherry 18. March 2010 17:08

Whether you are a UK customer or based worldwide, Data8 can provide you with the facility to validate any mobile phone or cell phone number.

We have sample coding available for Javascript, ASP.NET, c#, VB.NET, ADO(ASP/MS Office/VBScript/VB6) or PHP.
We've taken the hard work out of setting up the service, this combined with the help and support from our highly skilled technical support people, we can get you up and running in a matter of minutes.

Our mobile validation service can identify which country the mobile / cell phone is registered in, which country it is currently in, the network it registered to and also indicate any porting history.

Most of our customers use this service as they have cheaper access to specific mobile / cell networks for sending SMS campaigns.
For example you may have preferential pricing with a specific carrier network.  We can quickly and easily identify all of the numbers which are subscribers to that network, and you can specifically process your SMS campaign via your preferred provider.
This will both save you money, but also reduce the bounce rate of any campaign giving you a much more accurate response rate.

This service works anywhere in the world, for all mobile / cell numbers worldwide.

This service is available in batch via our data cleansing portal data8online, or our real time lookup service.
By clicking here you can view a sample of our mobile validation service / cell validation service and see it in action!
