Data8 Predictions for 2011

by johnt 6. January 2011 14:12

At this time of year the media is full of predictions, so there is no reason that the data8 blog should be any different, we can follow in the footsteps of some classic inaccurate forecasts -

'No one will need more than 637Kb of memory for a personal computer' - Bill Gates

'We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out' - Decca record executive on the Beatles

'There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.' - Ken Olson, 1977, Digital Equipment Corporation

These statements seem to back up Niels Bohr the Nobel Prize winning Danish physicist who observed “Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future."

So here goes -

   1. Data will be king in 2011 (Martin Sorrell), if this is going to be so then the quality of data will come under scrutiny.
   2. Every business will look more keenly at their costs and want to reduce waste
   3. There will be an increase in the use of direct mail as marketers realise their ‘share of voice’ in the new media is falling.
   4. In October, England will win the World Cup (no not that World Cup - the Rugby World Cup)

At data8 we can help anyone who believes predictions one to three, number four is wishful thinking. You can use data cleansing and reduce your costs, speed up the collection and accuracy of data you will need Postcode Lookup. If you want to enhance your data and give you another method of communicating with customers then use teleappend.

Have a prosperous New Year.
