A Swedish Easter

by johnt 19. April 2011 13:18

I am just back from a long weekend in Sigtuna (Sweden) and thought I would share some of their Easter traditions with you.

Children dress up as Easter witches; clad in old clothes, coloured headscarves and red-painted cheeks, they go from house to house in the neighbourhood and present the occupants with paintings and drawings in the hope of getting sweets in return. A little less aggressive than the American inspired ‘trick or treat’.

A traditional Easter lunch consists of different varieties of pickled herring, cured salmon and Jansson’s Temptation (potato, onion and pickled sprats baked in cream). Spiced schnapps is also a feature of the Easter meal, strictly as an aid to digestion. A wonderful mélange.

Once you get back from the holidays don’t forget before you start using your data have a think and see if any data cleansing is required.
