Extra time to implement cookie law

by johnt 3. May 2011 14:34

The new ‘cookie law’ was due to come into force in the UK on 25 May, but the Government has now confirmed that the legislation won’t come out until June.

The government has decided to phase in regulations and the Information Commissioner’s Office has confirmed that it will not take enforcement action against business and organisations that are working to address their use of cookies.

We should also get confirmation soon if the regulation is going to be opt-in or opt-out, indications now are that it will be an opt-in option as the Government is proposing to work with browser setting manufacturers to see if browser settings can be enhanced to meet the opt-in consent requirements of the Directive.
