Pessimism may soon be the new management mantra after management guru Tom Peters tweeted enthusiastically about a book that extols negative thinking.
The book is ‘The Positive Power of Negative Thinking: Use Defensive Pessimism to Harness Anxiety & Perform at Your Peak’ by psychologist Julie Norem. Norem offers evidence that, for many people, positive thinking is an ineffective strategy, and often an obstacle for successfully coping.
To paraphrase the opening lines of Kipling’s ‘If’
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
You don’t understand the seriousness of the situation.
Don't worry about the state of your data, a thorough data cleansing, which can easily be done online, will remove that worry. You can then spend your time worrying about other important things, like is the glass half full or half empty.
