FEPE, the European Federation of Envelope Manufacturers, held its 54th Congress in Edinburgh on “Meeting the Needs of a Demanding Market”.
The papers produced showed that according to recent studies in the US and Switzerland, people still favour “paper” as the most secure and reliable communication media. Although one would ‘expect them to say that wouldn’t they’ (the Mandy Rice Davies defence if anyone is old enough).
Presentations on market developments revealed a recovery in envelope sales in 2010 and indicated an overall slowing down of the much predicted decline in the coming years – this was supported by presentations showing consumer preferences for paper and new business opportunities.
The Belgian postal operator produced research on carbon footprint which showed that a typical paper based direct mail campaign has a 3-4 times lower Co2 impact than its electronic competitor in order to reach the same efficiency.
So don’t ignore your mailing lists, get the data cleansed and ensure that it has been suppressed for goneaways and deceased and you capture any movers. Getting your data in a PAF format will aid delivery and reduce your carbon footprint.
