Salesforce Data8 Data Tools - Configuration

Once the installation has been completed you will have something similar to Figure 1 below. Ensure the version number is listed as at least 1.30 before following the configuration instructions below.

Figure 1

Click the Configure button (highlighted in red in Figure 1 above) to start the configuration of the Data 8 Data Tools package.

The "Data8 Data Tools" Configuration screen will now open shown below in Figure 2.

Figure 2

To use the “Data8 Data Tools” package you will need to have a valid account with Data8. If you have a login then enter the username and password into the “Username” and “Password” boxes (shown in Figure 3 above). Otherwise, click the "Create Trial Account" button to get a new account with some free test credits.

Next enter your country code (this is the international dialing code for the specific country. For example for the UK it's “44” and the USA it’s “1”) then click the “Save” button. This will then log into Data8’s systems and get all of your licenses and credits which will be displayed in the bottom of the page under “Credits & Licenses”.

Now the application is configured you can add the relevant parts to your Salesforce pages. For each page, e.g. Account, Contact, Lead etc., you can choose to add PredictiveAddress, Telephone Validation and/or Email Validation as required. A free trial account will include credits for all of these services so you can test them out, but if you choose to only use some of these services you can add only those you want. The instructions below walk through adding all the services to the Contact page, but the same process also works for Account and Lead.

PredictiveAddress™

In the Setup pages, go to Customize > Contacts > Page Layouts in the left hand menu, then click "Edit" next to the "Contact Layout" entry. Select the "Buttons" option in the top list, then drag and drop the "PredictiveAddress" button onto the "Custom Buttons" section.

Click the "Save" button in the top menu bar. When you view a contact you will now see the "PredictiveAddress" button alongside the standard "Edit", "Delete" etc. buttons.

Repeat this process for the Account and Lead page layouts.

Email & Telephone Validation

Edit the "Contact Layout" page layout as described above. Select the "Visualforce Pages" option in the top list. This will contain pages to display the validity of each standard telephone number and email address field on the contact record. Drag and drop the appropriate pages underneath the corresponding data fields. For example, place the "Data8 Contact Phone Validation" page just beneath the "Phone" field.

Move your mouse over the blue rectangle and click the spanner "Properties" icon that appears in the top right corner. Change the "Height" setting to 20 and click OK.

Repeat this process for any other phone or email fields you want to show the validation status for, then click "Save".

Bank Account Validation

As there are no out-of-the-box fields for storing bank account details you will need to do a little more configuration to set up bank account validation. See our Salesforce Bank Account Validation documentation for details.

Company Financial Information

In the Setup pages, go to Customize > Leads > Page Layouts in the left hand menu, then click "Edit" next to the "Lead Layout" entry. Select the "Buttons" option in the top list, then drag and drop the "Get Company Information" button onto the "Custom Buttons" section.

Now select the "Visualforce Pages" option in the top list. Drag and drop the "Lead Company Information" page to an appropriate area of the page layout.

Move your mouse over the blue rectangle and click the spanner "Properties" icon that appears in the top right corner. Change the "Height" setting to 70 and click OK.

Click "Save", then repeat this process for the Account record type.

Troubleshooting

If you get an error similar to:

Requests from the domain 'c.eu6.visual.force.com' are not allowed

you will need to add the domain name to the list of allowed domains for your account on the Ajax API administration page.

When clicking Save after using PredictiveAddress to change an address and you get an error similar to:

null street="{!Contact.OtherStreet}": javax.el.ELException: core.apexpages.exceptions.ApexPagesDeveloperException: Invalid field OtherStreet for SObject Contact

you will need to add the appropriate address field to the standard page layout. In this example you would add the "Other Address" field to the Contact page layout.
