With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, it's fair to say the majority of consumers welcome the information and special offers they receive by post.
However, it's also understandable why some people might take a different view. The MPS is here to allow consumers to make that choice - so that they only get the mail they want.
As responsible professionals, Direct Mail companies don't want to upset anyone or waste time sending marketing messages that are not welcome. They respect the consumer's choice too. Equally true, they want to be careful not to waste valuable paper and postage.
If you need to register your personal details on the MPS to stop junk mail to your home address then you need to visit the Mailing Preference Service
Use of the Mailing Preference Service as part of your data cleansing
process is not a legal requirement, but is a strong plank within the self regulatory framework of the Direct Marketing Association. It's use is a condition of the Direct Marketing Association's Code of Practice and the British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion administered by the Advertising Standards Authority.
The format of the MPS recently changed to include personal level registrations (specifying a person by forename and surname) as well as the traditional file which only specified the surname. Our service automatically searches and matches correctly against both of these MPS types. Additionally, recent PAS2020 guidelines have indicated that it is necessary to search against the MPS Deceased records which are included within the MPS file; again the Data8 service meets this criteria.
