Granting access for Data8 to your Dynamics instance

In most cases you can follow the process of adding a CRM connection from your dashboard. This will prompt you for the URL of your Dynamics instance.

Logging In

If it is an online instance you will be prompted to log in using your standard Microsoft online credentials. If this is the first time you have used this process you may first see another page requiring an administrator to grant access to our application. This is required so that we can receive the authentication token to access your instance. If you have the Global Administrator or Application Administrator roles in your Azure AD you will be able to grant this permission yourself. Otherwise you will need to request an administrator to do this for you. If the administrator does not have access to your Data8 account to get to this step, they can authorize the application directly by visiting https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/authorize?client_id=2efaa9c6-d340-4bf9-a923-f718d934ad87&response_type=code.

Creating an Application User Automatically

Once you have logged in you'll be prompted whether you want us to access your instance using an application user or your own user account that you've just logged in with. We generally recommend that you select to use an application user - this does not consume a license and allows you to assign separate security roles to our user. In order for us to set this up automatically, the user you have logged in as must have permission to create new users in Dynamics.

Creating an Application User Manually

If you cannot create an application user using our automated process, you can request an administrator to follow these steps to create one manually.

  1. Ensure our "Data8 CRM Connection" application is granted access in Azure AD using the link https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/authorize?client_id=2efaa9c6-d340-4bf9-a923-f718d934ad87&response_type=code
  2. In the Power Platform Admin Center, select the environment to give us access to and click "S2S apps" in the "Access" panel in the top right.
  3. Click "New app user"
  4. Click "Add an app"
  5. Select the "Data8 CRM Connection" app
ℹ️ If you cannot see the app in the list, try searching for it by application ID - 2efaa9c6-d340-4bf9-a923-f718d934ad87
  6. Select the appropriate business unit (root BU is normally best) and security roles (e.g. "data8 duplicare Administrator" if you are using Duplicare)
  7. Click Create

Once these steps are complete, submit a ticket by emailing helpdesk@data-8.co.uk and include the URL of your instance so we can complete the process.

On Premise Environments

If you have an on premise environment with an IFD configured, we can connect to your instance using a username and password. You'll be prompted for these after entering your environment URL - enter a username and password that has access to the instance and the connection will be added.

If the password expires you will need to update the connection details with the new password in order for any automated processes to keep working as normal.
